Getting the most from your Osteo visit

Osteopathic care doesn’t end in the treatment room. The actions you take following the session can significantly increase how you respond! Afterall, we only have 30 minutes to 60 minutes a week with you in our clinic, so how you use the remaining 167 hours can make a big difference.

Here are a few simple ways to get the most from your treatment:

Keep Moving

Gentle movement, such as walking or light stretching (if recommended by your osteopath), helps your body adapt to the treatment and encourages healthy circulation. And everyone can do with a few extra steps a day!

Stay hydrated

Drinking plenty of water post session encourages your body to expel any pent up inflammation whilst rehydrating your body for the days to come.

Listen to your body

It's normal to experience some mild soreness or fatigue for 24–48 hours as your body adjusts. If you need to, take it easy and allow yourself time to recover.

Follow your home exercise plan

If your osteopath has prescribed exercises or stretches, try to complete them as instructed. These are tailored to your individual needs and play an important role in improving strength, mobility, and long-term outcomes.

Avoid overdoing it

While staying active is encouraged, it may be wise to avoid strenuous exercise or heavy lifting immediately after your session unless your osteopath advises otherwise. Even if you are feeling 120% better…. Your body may still need longer to heal, so ease back into it!

Take note of changes for your next appointment

Be sure to let us know how you've been since your last appointment. The more we know about what's improved, what hasn't, and any new symptoms, the better we can tailor your treatment and ongoing plan.

Remember, osteopathic care works best as a partnership. Combining hands-on treatment with healthy movement, exercise, and self-care gives your body the best opportunity to recover, function well, and stay active.

If you have any concerns following your appointment or your symptoms change unexpectedly, don't hesitate to contact your osteopath for advice.
